Managing Returned Materials

Phased re-opening

According to the UK government’s roadmap to lift lockdown restrictions in England, venues such as libraries will open in step three of the plan.

The document explains: “The ambition at this step is to open at least some of the remaining businesses and premises that have been required to close, including personal care (such as hairdressers and beauty salons), hospitality (such as food service providers, pubs and accommodations), public places (such as places of worship) and leisure facilities (like cinemas).”

This step, according to the government, will mean that some libraries will begin a four-phase re-opening from Monday 6th July, as long as the infection rate remains down – with phase one launched today seeing chosen books spending six days in quarantine before they can be read.

Venues that reopen will be required to adhere to Covid-19 secure guidelines to ensure the safety of staff and visitors.

Phase One:

Phase Two:

Phase Three:

Phase Four:

Is the first of four that will eventually lead to the full re-opening of libraries and includes services such as click and collect with quarantine.

Will see limited access by appointment, for essential computer use and council enquiries.

Will see people allowed to browse the bookshelves – with a limit to the numbers.

Is the full opening and re-introduction of activities and events.
